How can my friend apply for a TFN if on Bridging visa E ( with full work rights). Australia Post will not accept anything other than Australian documents or overseas passport (he doesn't have) and will not accept his Immicard as primary identifying docs. What to do?

It appears that your friend has used the wrong application when applying for the TFN.
As your friend is on a bridging VISA he'll apply for the TFN through Foreign passport holders, permanent migrants and temporary visitors - TFN application. With this application there's no requirement to go into the Australia post to verify identity, as we'll do this online through the Bridging Visa.

Thanks for your reply. We tried the online form which also asks for documents he doesn't have but finally someone told us to use his visa number where it asks for Passport number or travel document. It would have been helpful if this was an option available to select. Then the next box is Issuing Country - one would think that's Australia but no option for Australia. We were advised to put his home country. Very strange really. Anyway we are waiting now - hopefully he will receive his TFN soon. Thanks again.
