I’m a casual employee and only now noticed and I’ve only earned just over $7000 so far this financial year but my employer has only taken out $39 the whole year in tax.. is this normal?
Hi @Markus91,
Your employer is required to withhold the correct amount of tax from your wages - if you think they haven't withheld enough tax, it would be a good idea to talk to your employer and find out why this has happened. You can also check if your employer is doing the right thing by using our tax withheld calculators. Compare the results of this calculator with your payslips to see if the amounts are correct.
If you find that they haven't withheld enough tax, you can ask them to withhold extra from each pay to avoid receiving a tax bill in the future. This is known as an upwards variation, and is easy to do - you give your employer or payroll a letter asking them to withhold an extra amount each pay.
