Hello,

I am a non resident Australian with in Australian passport. I was not born in Australia but I hold the Australian passport and a certificate of citizenship.

I created my GovID and used it to log in to the ATO website in order to apply for a TFN.

When I select the option of applying online for a TFN, it gives me many categories. I chose the option of "Australian citizens with an Australian passport" which describes my case. I reach a point where I am asked if I was born in Australia. When I put NO, it asks which country am I born at and my date of arrival to Australia. And since I was not born in Australia and I don't currently live there, this is preventing me from proceeding with the application. Can you please advise what should I do in this case? should I choose the category of non residents although I am Australian?

Thank you

Hi @cynthiagereige,

It sounds like you might not be a resident anymore. Do you live somewhere else permanently?

Check out the information Australian reisdent for tax purposes.

I do live somewhere else, but I am planning to get jobs in Australia and to do them remotely, and to receive the money in Australia. Would it be okay without a TFN?
