Hi,

I am wondering if branding expenses such as signage and communications will be considered as expenses or should they been capitalise.

I have read upon some ATO ID 2004/858 and ATO community question but most of them point at trademark and logo and design.

I wonder if signage or all other communications can be find in any TR or TD, in any case legislation will be great.

Thank you

Hi @cadasky,

I couldn't find a specific tax ruling or determination on this, but the following information from our website would apply here.

Marketing and advertisement expenses incurred by a business or company (such as signage, newspaper/ magazine/ radio/ digital display ads, and paid social media campaigns) can be claimed in full under operating expenses in the same year the cost is incurred.

To claim the deduction, it's a good idea to keep hold of appropriate records to support your deduction. This includes:

- Receipts or invoices for the expense

- Bank or credit card statements to show payment for the expense

- Details of what the expense was for, the cost, and when the purchase was made
