As an artist who runs an etsy store and has art exhibitions (which I pay a gallery to hire a space) what would go in "Purchases and other costs" and "All other expenses"? To help, I've listed some of the things I want to claim:

1-Art materials used to make works & products to sell

2- Public and product liability insurance

3-Business name registration

4-iPads, DSLR camera, printers

5- Subscription services such as website, photoshop etc

6-Etsy fees

7-Gallery hire cost

Hi @TBPArt,

Purchases and other costs relate to the cost of direct materials used for the manufacture, sale or exchange in deriving business earnings, as well as inwards freight, and the cost of stock acquired when starting or acquiring a business during the year. It's basically where you report materials you've used to produce your art. So from your post, this would be item 1 and possibly item 4. If any of the items at 4 cost more than $300 each, they'll need to be claimed as depreciating assets. Our depreciation and capital allowances tool can help with this.

Any other expenses that don't fit into another category under Net income or loss from business are claimed at all other expenses.
