About 7 years ago my so called mate helped me do my tax return but unfortunately he stole my return. I managed to report him and was able to re-do my return for that year but there has been a block on my account ever since and the ato won't let me lift it for security reasons. So my question is can I change something like my tax file number so I don't have to go threw ringing up to get a temporary unblock of my account so I can do things like my tax return or even look at my account?

Sorry to hear about that! Unfortunately, there isn't way for you to permanently remove this block. This is because we place blocks like these on your account for security purposes, to protect you from future fraud attempts. There also isn't a way for you to change your TFN.


We understand that these security measures are inconvenient, however they're necessary to protect your account.
