I work casually as a Paramedic for a state ambulance service. I am required to travel to different ambulance stations every day for work. As part of my job I am required to carry a PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kit. This kit is quite large and has helmets/rain jackets/high visibility jackets, large SCOTT respirator masks/spare uniform etc inside. The bag itself is heavy and awkward to carry for a prolonged period of time. Additionally, due to working out of a new station every shift, there is no secure place at work that I am able to leave my PPE Kit.

I was wondering if this would be considered a 'bulky' tool for the purposes of claiming travel related deductions to and from work for tax purposes?

Hi @Mleightonjones,

It sounds like the PPE would be classed as equipment, which is still an accepted category under "trips you can claim between your home and your workplace". Due to the fact that you can't leave it behind and have to take it with you to each different station, you'd be able to claim the deduction under Car and travel expenses 2022.
