Hi I have been working over last few months doing some residential cleaning for a few different people I have kept track of all monies earnt for each person and I just issue a basic invoice by email of what I did each clean. I contacted the ATO a couple of months ago re getting an ABN but they said unless I was going to earn towards $10000 it wasn't necessary. I have been having extra tax taken from my Jobseeker payment to cover the extra money I have earnt for tax and have declared this income. My problem is I am trying to add this money I have earnt to my tax return on My Gov and I can't add it under income as the people who get me to clean private residents do not have an ABN. How can I add what I have earnt. Thanks in advance. Also going forward my work is hopefully increasing so for next financial year do I do an ABN and/or do I need to set up as a small business - it will just be me cleaning a few homes per week. thanks

Hello there @julie10

To include this income on your tax return you will need to personalise your tax return.

Even though you did not have an ABN you would report this as business income. This is done by selecting the You had Business/ sole trader income or loss. Then you will need to select Business income or loss.

You will not need to apply for an ABN unless your GST turnover is more than $75,000. You can choose to apply for one even if your turnover is less than $75,000.
