Hello, I got an ABN a few years ago when I was a sole trader, I have resumed working for an employer for the last few years and have not used or made money with my ABN for the the whole of the financial year, however, it appears all

of my tax return was taken to pay outstanding PAYG estimates statements ( that put me in a debit)

I actually owe 0 PAYG for my sole trading as I didn’t do any buy you have charged me 6 grand. What do I do?

Hi @Deanopride,

I know it looks like your refund has been taken and you've missed out but the way PAYG instalments work is the amounts will show up as a credit on your Notice of Assessment (NOA), regardless if you paid them or not.

If you look at your NOA you'll see we gave you a credit for PAYGI. It sounds like these credits made up your refund. Since you didn't pay the activity statements for the PAYGI we've just taken these credits back to cancel out the debt.

So basically if you weren't in the PAYGI system to start with then you wouldn't have these credits on your NOA. Hope that makes sense.

You may have been exited from the PAYGI system by now but if not you can exit this online.

You can also cancel your ABN if you no longer need it.
