Trying to find out if claiming this would always result as a refund (or no change) or if there is circumstances where you may in fact receive a bill.
Hi @dtax,
If you're entitled to an exemption for the Medicare Levy, you'll need to claim that on your side in your tax return. Our page on Medicare levy exemptions runs through claiming it based on which reason you're exempt under. As for the Medicare levy surcharge, we'll determine if you need to pay it based on your information in your tax return. Our Medicare Levy surcharge page runs through when you don't need to pay it and how to complete your tax return for it.

Hi @dtax,
There isn't a situation where claiming these exemptions would cause a tax bill. If eligible for an exemption, the amounts payable by an individual are reduced. Whether this results in a refund depends on the individuals circumstances.
