Hi everyone (hope everyone is doing well!),

As of this post, EMS Japan has resumed shipping to Australia, meaning that some stuff I've ordered is finally coming within the next coming months. (I've ordered from shop.geekjack.net; the products are various such as clothing and pillow covers). I can't answer if they will be sending all of the suspended orders altogether or separately, but regardless, I want to ask this:

As a consumer who does not intend to use the products for commercial use nor am I a sole trader, do I still need to pay import tax and if so, when and where? The total price of orders is less than $1,000 AUD and does not contain alcohol or tobacco (though one product utilises standard LEDs). I may answer additional questions if they come up and feel free to ask any additional information!

Hiya @JesseHeisenberg,

GST does apply to imports less than $1000. If the seller is registered for GST, they have to charge GST on all sales to Australia. Even businesses outside Australia have to register for GST if their sales in Australia are over $75k.
