In 2021, I made a mistake filling out my TFN declaration form and I chose the foreign resident option, even though I was supposed to choose Australian resident.

I did get this mistake rectified and changed my status to an Australian resident. However, I still haven't received that extra money that was deducted from my salary, until I made the change from a foreign resident to an Australian resident.

I wanted to also understand, how would this affect my tax return for the FY2021-22.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @k_s_11994,

If you've overpaid tax during the year you should get a refund when you lodge your tax return. When you submit your return you'll tell us your residency status and we'll calculate how much tax you should've paid. If we see you paid too much, you'll get a refund of the overpaid amount.
