So I'm trying to link my mygov account to the ATO online services. When in the process of linking, and choosing the option for specific questions, I go with the bank account option. I keep putting in my details but it keeps telling me they are wrong. Is there a way to find out which account is linked to the ATO records without the use of the ATO online service through mygov?

Hi @shaichappo,

If you've bank statements or online banking you can check which bank we've deposited a refund in to.

Sometimes when tax agents lodge a tax return for you, they update your bank account details to be theirs. Check if in the past refunds have gone to a tax agent you've used.

Once you're linked you'll be able to update your banking information.

What if this is my first time lodging a tax return and I've never gotten a tax refund before?

Hello @Diligenttaxpaye,

If you have informed us of a bank account it would be the one you added when you got your TFN, however if you have not lodge a tax return yet you may not actually have one on file. I would suggest checking out the easy read linking guide as it tells you how to link up and also your options if you are unable to.

Hi @Izzy_34,

If you're not able to link to online services with the information you have you may need to call. If you call, we can do two things for you:

  • Check the bank details we've got recorded (and can get them updated, if needed).
  • Issue you a linking code. You can also ask us to stay on the phone with you while you link, so it gets sorted then and there.

@RachelATO

Hi Rachel!

I have exactly the same problem.

Which phone number can I use from France ? I don't have an international data plan so maybe a WhatsApp phone number would be the best to be used with WiFi

If not, can you provide an Australian number that is not surcharged?

Thank you,

Laura

Hi @Laura.lovisi,

You'd have to contact us using the number for overseas calls.

I don't believe you can use Whats App to contact the ATO.

If the issue is linking ATO Online Services and not knowing the security questions, like your Australian bank info and you're trying to lodge your tax return from outside of Australia you won't be able to access or link your ATO Online Services by logging into myGov directly anymore as you no longer have an Australian mobile.

You can try to link or access using myID, if your able to get a strong enough identity set up.

Another option is using paper return or an Australian registered tax agent to lodge for you.
