We received a query from our importer. They used ATO-CAC (CAC = Client Activity Centre) system under Australian Customs and Border Protection Service to check our Trading Name / Business Name of GST registration was expired, not entity GST registration. I understood it is not necessary to register business name as GST registration.

They needed ABN/CAC to fill in form N10. https://www.abf.gov.au/help-and-support-subsite/Guides/doc-import-declaration-guide.pdf

They captured a picture and showed our GST registered of "trading name" was expired. Someone said it related to ABR not ATO. How can I rectify it? Please advise.

Hi @RAFUGW,

The correct way to confirm if a business is registered for GST, is to do an ABN look up in the ABR.

This provides the public with information on when the business commenced and if they are registered for GST.

Questions on completing form N10 need to be taken up with ABF.

In regards to trading names and if they show GST registration, this is a question you'll need to ask of ASIC, as they administer business and trading name registrations.
