I plan to stay in Australia for over a year. The bank in my home country where I have an account has asked me to provide my Australian tax identification number. Can I give them my TFN?

Hi @Momokotaro,

It's completely up to you on who you provide your TFN to. We can't tell you when to provide it - we just recommend being careful. As a general rule you should only give your TFN to organisations or people who have a legitimate need for it. Banks are generally an type that would have a need for your TFN for reporting obligations. You may want to get in contact with them to get an understanding of what they specifically need it for. I'd also recommend having a read through our page on protecting your TFN.
