The MyGovID app says my NSW marriage certificate cannot be verified as it was issued before 2014 but there is no information about what you do about that.

Do you have two identity documents in your current legal name? This will prevent the need to use 'other' name documents with your marriage certificate.

Depending on your circumstances you have several options:

  • Contact Births, Deaths and Marriages and request a replacement marriage certificate which can then be verified digitally. This will cost you money.
  • You may be able to verify another email address in the myGovID app and use only your current legal name identity documents. Conditional they're not locked or in a 'pending' state with the failed marriage certificate. This will also result in the original email still being partially registered.
  • Contact the myGovID support line, be prepared to wait a really long time on the phone, and request that your myGovID be cancelled so that you can start over. When you start again only use identity documents with your current legal name on them.

Thanks for your help on this - I have 2 ID docs with my married name on them but I cannot find how to delete the passport which has my maiden name on it - do you know whether it is possible to do that? Many thanks
