I have been trying for the past 9 weeks to get a linking code to do my first tax return as mygov will not accept my details although they are correct.

Hi @JanM,

Sorry to hear you haven't been able to get your account linked up with us. Unfortunately, we have been at peak demand recently and it can take some attempts to get through over the phone. Hopefully you'll be able to get through soon to get that linked up and have your return submitted.

If you find you're unable to get through for a linking code I'd recommend looking at another lodgement method. Lodging online through myGov is the fastest way, but if this isn't possible you can instead lodge through a tax agent or submit a paper form. Our page on submitting a return runs through these options a bit more. The tax agent option would have a cost associated with it, however the paper form is free and would not require a linked account. After we've processed your paper return the information we use to link your myGov account should be updated. This means you would then be able to link using the questions specific to you instead of the need for a linking code.
