Hi,

my friend works as a paramedic and not long ago he started training his dog with a certified trainer so his dog can become a certified assistance dog. In the meantime, he is paying for the training and other expenses related to his dog. Would this be deductible? Considering all the mental health issues paramedics do develop/go through.

Hi @PGE,

I understand where you are coming from and it is a great question.

Unfortunately, the expenses would not be deductible as they would not require the dog to earn their assessable income as part of their normal job.

We have some legislation that you may find helpful.
