I am an Australia permanent resident and have worked in Australia for a few years. If I leave Australia to work overseas for 20 years. After I retire, I come back to Australia. Can I access my super fund? And How is the super fund taxed if there is any? Thanks a lot!
Hi @LewisZhang,
Without knowing a bit more information about you we won't be able to say if you can access your super here. You'll need to see if you meet a condition of release to access your super. These include:
- turning 65 (even if you haven't retired)
- reaching preservation age and retiring, or
- under transition to retirement rules, while you continue to work.
Our page on accessing your super goes through this a bit more and should help out. If you meet a requirement you can contact your fund to discuss your options with them.
As for the tax that applies, this depends on several factors. I'd recommend reading through our page on tax on super benefits for more information on this.
