Hi

I have been trying to apply for a ABN to start door dash/Uber eats since last week. 1st it was declined so I downloaded mygovID, completed all questions and ID except that I don't have an Australian passport. I am New Zealander, been here for two years working and now would like to try something new. I did try to contact on [removed by moderator], but I have been disconnected 3 times on 3 different occasions and an hour every time. Can anyone help

Hi @rosita,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble applying for an ABN! When your ABN is refused it should be coming up with some sort of refusal reason. This should be able to give you an indication of why the application has been refused.

The first thing to check would be whether you're entitled to an ABN. If you think you're eligible after looking through this page, then you can apply again.

Commonly, applications can be refused if you've misunderstood a question and answered in a way that makes it seem like you aren't eligible for an ABN. For example, in the case of food delivery drivers, people sometimes choose the option that says they're working as an employee or contractor, rather than operating in the form of a business. This will cause the application to think that you aren't eligible, and refuse your application. Yours was probably refused for a similar reason, so have a look through the ABN entitlement page to check.

Also, you won't need myGovID as it isn't used for ABN applications, so I wouldn't worry about that.

The Australian Business Register (ABR) page on applying for an ABN has some information about unsuccessful applications.
