I am a newbie when it comes to AUS taxation. I am starting a private online tutoring as a side hustle (sole trader). I have a few things I want to know before I start.

What kind of taxes do I need to pay? when should I pay them?

Do I need to pay GST?

Do I need to provide official invoice to the client? (Do I need to apply for this?)

Hey @sierra,

Yes, you'll need to pay tax on the income you make from your sole trader income. You can pay this throughout the year by volunteering to enter in the PAYG instalment system where you can make quarterly payments towards your tax, or when you lodge your tax return you may end up with an amount that's payable then.

You'll only need to register for GST if your GST turnover reaches $75,000. Until this happens you won't have to charge GST and you won't be able to claim GST.

In regards to you invoicing a customer if they ask for an invoice you'll have to provide them one within 28 days unless it is for a sale of $82.50 or less. No, you don't need to apply to issue an invoice to a client.

Hope this helps!
