After filling out the paper notification of a deceased person form NAT 74279-05.2020

I will be posting to the ATO the following:

  • Signed Notifcation of a deceased person form (Signed by me as executor)
  • certified copy of the grant of probate
  • certified copy of the death certificate

What else do i include to elect a tax agent at the same time?

i don't want to ring up after the fact

everything needs to be sent in at the same time

so after its done the tax agent can moniter the portal for when they have access

Hi @Penguin,

You're on the right track!

You'll need proof of identity documents with a photo for yourself, death certificate, grant of probate or letter of administration. These can be either originals or certified copies. Keep in mind the requirements for correct certification.

Does the deceased need a trust tax file number? If so, you'll need to apply.

A tax agent can add the deceased to their client list at any time after a letter of engagement has been signed. The legal personal representative, (LPR) will be able to do this.

The grant of probate or letters of administration will let you know who the LPR is.

Have a look at the information on our website where it talks about notification of a deceased person.

You're doing great so far!
