I have an ACN with a company registered under it but want to open another business operating in a different field.
Is that allowed (as I dont want to spend another $500-600 for a new ACN.)

Okay so to start with you cannot have multiple ABN's for the same ACN. You can have multiple businesses under the one ABN. You can register multiple business names under the one ABN.
You would need to decide if that is what you would like to do. If you do not want to register for another ACN. You do not have to have 2 companies. There are other business structures you could consider.

I have a related question but under a slightly different use case:
I register ACN and start business with associated bank account etc
3 months into new venture I discovered a better suited business name with the com.au domain available. However to purchase said domain, I need a matching ABN. So new ABN is created in order to purchase the domain..
Business continues operating under the original ACN & bank etc - is there there any potential issue here? I was hoping there might be a way to link the original ACN and new ABN… same business, but new ABN that I registered in order to secure the domain. Hope that's clear - thank you!
