I have a sole trader ABN which I do a few activities under. I was going to register a business name attached to this ABN but I would need to provide a physical address (not a PO box) which could then be available publicly. I work from home, and do not feel comfortable having my home address accessible to the public, or easily publicly connected to me. I am hoping to operate in a competitive industry where the community is known for going after competitors, and being able to connect a brand name with me personally could affect my success.


Is my accountant's address or a virtual office service address (with a mail forwarding service) acceptable in this case? Are there any other alternatives I've not considered?

When it comes to your sole trader ABN. The business address needs to be yours. I understand that you are worried about it being publicly available. The only address details available on the ABN look up are the state and postcode.


When it comes to the business name registration. Any issues with the address and if it is accessible to the public, you would need to refer to ASIC.

Hey I have a similar question, just wanting to confirm — I’m looking to register as an individual (sole trader) using my own name, not under a separate business name. Will I be able to use a virtual office service address (with a mail forwarding service)?
