If you would have received age pension, but fail asset test or income test, then SAPTO will still apply.

If you fail eligibility because of 10 year test, etc, then no SAPTO.

Thank you for your answer. I have never received the pension and know I will not receive it because of a rental property I own. Does this mean I can't get sapto?

Hi @Seniorindep,

Just to clarify what @Bruce4Tax advised. You can still use SAPTO if you were entitled to age pension but failed the income and asset test.

Provided you didn't fail any of the other conditions then refer to the Seniors and pensioners tax offset webpage. This lists the other conditions and see if you have satisfied any under the sub heading Eligibility for an Australian Government pension.

Then you may be still eligible.
