I am an Australian citizen though I moved overseas for work at the end of the 2021-2022 financial year. I have been overseas for the entirety of the 2022-2023 financial year and will be here for several more years. I'm an average guy with no investments and 100% of my income and earnings are from a foreign company in a foreign country (I am paying taxes here too). I currently have no income or assets in Australia.

Will I need to lodge a tax return for 2022 - 2023? and am I likely going to need to pay tax here in Aus too?

Is there anything you think I should be aware of for future years?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @ThankYou,

You can use the residency tool from our webpage to give yourself a determination on your current residency status. It sounds like you're a non-resident. As such you'd only need to declare your Australian-sourced income. If you don't have any, then you won't need to lodge a tax return here. However, you'll still need to advise us of this each FY via a non-lodgement advice. The easiest way to do so is online via your myGov account, or use the alternate option, via paper.
