I have just started working for the financial year, which means I will earn less that what the required amount is to pay off HECS for the year. I am getting taxed by HECS a huge amount, like 1/3 of my pay. Will i get this reimbursed at tax time?

Hello @Libbyb,

The HECS amounts that are withheld come to us as extra tax withheld from your pay. When it comes to your return if that extra withholding isn't required to clear a debit then it will come out as a credit. As long as you are not in a debt with us or another govt agency then it is most likely to come back as a refund.
