I am the payroll person for a business, just employed a person on a Temporary Resident Visa, how much tax should I withhold

You tax someone based upon their Tax File Number Declaration and employment details.


For example, on the TFND, Q8 asks if the worker is an Australian resident for tax purposes or a working holiday maker. There are explanations on the form (paper, on the website or in ATO Online), whichever process is being used.


That will inform how you tax the employee. For example, if they are a foreign tax resident, the ATO guidance walks you through the options.
