Husband and I have been separated since Sept 2022. He moved out straight away but has been paying 1/2 of the mortgage and a portion of a few bills that are directly related to the house. Do I still declare him as a spouse on my tax return this year?

Hi @Squirt73

Yes, you’ll need to report your spouse details so we can work out your Medicare obligation.

If you’re lodging through online services say Yes at Step 3 Personalise return,  Did you have a spouse at any time between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023.

At Step 4 Prepare return, under Spouse details click the Add/Edit button, input their details. Under Did you have a spouse for the full year 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023 select No and input the 1 July 2022 and the date you separated. Complete the remaining fields based on the whole year figures.
