When consolidation occurs in a company and a cgt event occurs does one have to enter it in that tax year or is it come up when selling the shares. In normal cases there is no CGT event I presume if the consolidation is the same or below the share price.

As best as I can recall, the consolidations I've seen in my portfolio have NEVER been CGT events. See this detailed ATO response in a previous thread:
