My wife recently arrived in Australia and holds a valid Skilled Work Regional Visa. We have opened a bank account for her in Australia and now we would like to apply for a Tax File Number (TFN) for her.

Currently, she only possesses an Australian visa, her International Passport, and a Westpac bank letter confirming her address. However, the TFN Registration requires three documents, with one of them being a primary document. Unfortunately, we only have two documents at the moment.

When we visited Australia Post, the personnel suggested obtaining an exemption letter from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), which would allow us to apply with just two documents.

I am unfamiliar with the process and how to go about applying for and obtaining an exemption letter. Could you please provide guidance on this matter?

Thank you in advance.
