I am an Australian resident and I have been offered a short term (1-2 months) contract position to work remotely for a company based in The Netherlands. The contract is clear that it is a short term contract and I am not an employee. What are the tax implications of accepting this contract? Is there any thing I need to do other than declaring the income on my tax return? Do I need to pay tax in The Netherlands if all the work is performed in Australia?

Many Thanks

Hi @RemoteContracto

Do you know what your tax residency is? If you're an Australian tax resident you'll need to declare the income here. If you're a contractor, this is normally viewed as running a business. If you haven't already you can check if you're entitled to an ABN if you're thinking about getting one. We can't tell you if you have any overseas obligations you should follow this up with them. We have an article about working remotely to help you understand your situation and has relevant links.
