I have recently started a dropshipping business on the platform known as Shopify. I am only starting this business as a trial to see how ecommerce treats me, at this point I am not deeply serious about this business and consider it at this point a 'test run'. I have found that I need an ABN to run this business and to gain access to an ABN I need a registered business name. I have already registered the domain on the Shopify platform however I am just wondering if I need to register it through the ATO as well.

Hello @Lochee,


You don't need a registered business name to obtain an ABN. You can easily apply for an ABN for free on the ABR website. If you do require a registered business name you can contact ASIC and see what you need to obtain one from them.
