I'm a civil engineer. As a basic requirement of my work, I always have to work on construction site (highway, coal mine and railway etc) for several days or weeks.

In that case, I'll have to wear a Hi-visible shirts as a site requirement and we work 12 hours each day on site. Usually, I have to wash it every day as after 12 hours of work outdoors, the smell of the hi-visible shirts is terrible. I always wash it using the washing machine provided by the Motels or Camps (if it's a mine site).

However, in most of motels or camps that I stayed previously, they is no receipt provided as I had to use coins for those machines. I also never claimed it to my employer as I don't even have any receipt for this cost. So, my employer never reimbursed me for this cost.

I'm wondering if I still be able to claim tax reduction for the cost this laundry and drying service without receipts?

Hi @532413770

If your laundry expenses are $150 or less you can claim that amount without evidence. However, if you total work related deductions go over $300 you need receipts,

Correct mate, don't quote me on it but I believe the amount is normally $150 - $200. I believe there is a limit until you may need to prove the costs.

Check out this link and have a read through - it gives you $ amounts that are considered reasonable. https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/income-deductions-offsets-and-records/deductions-you-can-claim/clothes-and-items-you-wear-at-work/clothing-laundry-and-dry-cleaning-expenses/
