I have already called the ABR and requested that my client name and my family name linked to my ABN is updated to my married name. They assured me it was done but the ABR still shows my old name. My contact name is correct. All my details in the ATO are also correct. My name changes was several years ago.

I’m sorry to hear your having trouble getting your client name updated.
With ABN’s you will have the “Legal entity name”, “Registered business name”, and “Trading name”.
Depending on how these three appear on the ABN Look up as to the action we can take.
The term Trading name refers to an unregistered business name that businesses used before the introduction of the National Names Register this commenced in May 2012 and is overseen by ASIC.
Any Trading names on the ABN Lookup cannot be changed and will be removed in November 2023.
If you have a Registered business name, if this is showing as incorrect, you’ll need to contact ASIC to update, we no longer have access to make any changes to these name types.
You’ve indicated your family linked to your ABN has been updated so I’m assuming you’re a sold trader and the Legal entity name is your legal name as it appears on legal documents. We can update legal entity names.
If you’re not sure where your “client name” falls in with the above info we’ll need to check your account to investigate it further for you. Our business area can do this for you. Unfortunately, we do have access to your file from our community page to check.
