My spouse loves to drag their heels when lodging their return. They know roughly what their taxable income is, say within 5k, but probably won't Lodge til late October.
How precise do I have to be when reporting the figure?

Hi @Dani85,
Significantly overestimating your spouse's income may mean you'll need to pay the Medicare levy surcharge. If you're meant to be entitled to certain tax offsets or rebates this may also push you above the thresholds and leave you worse off.
We have more info about Spouse details and your tax return in our article.
Hello @w4k1ng,
According to the Spouse details -married or de facto instructions 2023, if you can’t find out any of the amounts required, you can make a reasonable estimate. You will not be penalised for an incorrect estimate if you acted reasonably and in good faith.
@JoanATO what happens if I overestimate my spouse's tax return by a significant amount eg $20,000
