I filed my Tax Return on the 1st of July, after a week it said 'Under Review'. It is now the 31st of July, it states still 'Under Review'. I have no heard from anyone in regards to needing more information and when i phoned the ATO, they couldnt tell me anything. How long before I will normally hear back in regards to my return?
Hey @jay_boy_M2_NFFC,
We understand it must be frustrating for you. When a tax return is under review, we're not advised within the system exactly why this is.
When a tax return is under review it means it needs to be manually processed. We can be reviewing the information provided on this tax return with information provided on We could also be reviewing previous year returns.
These are a few reasons why it can be delayed also:
- you have a tax debt that's previously been on hold
- we are checking information with other government agencies
- you're currently under an insolvency administration
As mentioned you've got the option of priority processing if the delay is causing financial difficulties.

Hi @rjb02
So sorry to hear that this has happened.
When a return is in review, it means we are checking the details of your return and may be looking at previously lodged returns.
This process can take 30 days to process. They may require further information and may contact you either via email or phone.
Please continue to keep an eye out on your return and your MyGov inbox.
Here is a link to our tax return article the will help you better understand the statuses of your return.
Thank you very much for this, I havent had any notification via sms, email or phone as it says it will when it takes longer than 30 calendar days & I cant get through to speak with someone on the phone to find out what the delay is. Is there any way I can find out what the delay is or how long it will take to process?
Thanks for your help :)
