Hi,

I have a letter as at January 2026 stating that I no longer am required to pay PAYG instalments. However, I just got a notification on my account 003 saying I have an overdue payment, processed as at the start of March.

these seem to be contradictory - is it a system error, or is this overdue amount actually valid?

thanks

Hi @Cgjauwow25,

The notification on your account 003 showing an overdue payment isn't necessarily a system error. This could be an instalment from a previous period that was processed before your PAYG instalment obligation was removed, or it may relate to a different type of debt.

When you're no longer required to pay PAYG instalments, the letter you received in January 2026 would have notified you of this change. However, this doesn't automatically cancel any instalments that were already due or outstanding before the removal took effect. Any PAYG instalment that became due before you exited the system would still need to be paid.

You can check your account balance and payment history through ATO online services to see what the overdue amount relates to. This will show you the specific debt type and when it was processed. The account details will clarify whether this is a previous PAYG instalment or another type of payment obligation.

If you can't access online services or need help understanding what the debt relates to, contact our business team. They can review your account and explain why the overdue amount appears despite your PAYG instalment obligation being removed.
