Hi @EconEnergyGuy10,
Your tax residency for the 2025–26 financial year will depend on your individual circumstances, and it's assessed separately from your wife's. The fact that your wife and children remain in Australia while you're working in Saudi Arabia means you'll each need to determine your own residency status for tax purposes.
Your situation is complex. We have a tool you can use to work out your residency status. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes to complete and is based on your specific circumstances. Your residency status for tax purposes may be different from your visa or immigration status.
If you're an Australian resident for tax purposes, you'll need to declare your worldwide income, including your Saudi Arabian employment income. If you're a foreign resident, you'll only declare Australian-sourced income. The documentation you've mentioned (employment contract, Saudi residency, lease agreement, visa documentation) will be useful if we need to review your residency status.
As @YellowPotato suggests, you may want to consider applying for a private ruling about your residency status. This will give you certainty about how the tax law applies before you lodge your tax return.
