We don’t have a comprehensive list of allowable or disallowed items for novated leases, but we have set out clear principles about what can be salary‑packaged. Under those principles, only lease payments and ordinary running costs of a vehicle are generally eligible.
While a novated lease arrangement covers vehicle‑related expenses, items like ceramic coating are usually treated as a capital or cosmetic enhancement, rather than a running cost or repair. Protective treatments that go beyond ordinary servicing and aren’t required to keep the car roadworthy are usually not considered reimbursable under FBT rules.
You can review your novated lease agreement for completeness, but where a lease provider has rejected a ceramic coating claim on ATO grounds, that outcome aligns with standard treatment and is unlikely to change.
