As a holder of a 462 Working Holiday visa, can I apply for a Tax File Number (TFN) before arriving in Australia, and if so, how?
I’ve tried applying online, but the system doesn’t allow me to proceed because I’m not currently in Australia (I arrive at the end of May 2026). The online form suggests using the ‘Tax file number – application or enquiry for individuals living outside Australia’, but none of the application reasons seem to apply to my situation.
From what I’ve read, it seems I should be able to apply for a TFN once my visa has been granted (which it has), but I haven’t been able to find a clear way to do this before arriving in Australia.
I’d prefer to have this organised in advance, but I’m happy to wait until I arrive if that’s the correct process.
