My MyGov account has been detached from my digital ID (MyID) - but has not been completely deleted and the old accounts show-up in the list of accounts linked to to my digital ID when logged with my current MyGov account. This is creating a backdoor for scammers to take advantage of the not fully deleted MyGov accounts which are still showing up in the list to choose from when connecting to MyGov account !

ATO doesn't look after MyGov

Hi @Do_Different,
There may be some confusion about how myID and myGov work together. myID is only a secure sign‑in (virtual key of sorts) method that proves who you are. It doesn’t store, manage or give access to myGov accounts.
myGov is a separate account that holds your linked services, messages and settings. Seeing older myGov account names when signing in with myID doesn’t necessarily mean those accounts are still active, accessible, or linked.
If you want to check that an old myGov account is completely closed, your first step should be to contact the myGov help desk to confirm this has been done. If they confirm the account is closed but you’re still seeing old details when signing in with myID, you can then phone myID for help.
If any of your linked services (such as ATO) has been compromised, you should immediately reach out to each governing agency as well. If ever needed, you can phone our dedicated team at the ATO directly to discuss this further.
