Hi all, I have just purchased a new vehicle and its ETA will be late Apr 2026. I will be using the car to transit in between clients' homes as requested by my company. Therefore, I am thinking to claim the car expenses through log book method in this FY.

However, as I will be picking up my car in late Apr 2026, it is not possible for me to complete the 12 weeks period for log book method. May I know if the 12 weeks period can be extended beyond 30th Jun 2026 for logbook lodged in FY25/26 tax return?

Not a concern. From ATO on logbook method (for business but same for employees)

"If you started to use your car for business-related purposes less than 12 weeks before the end of the income year, you can continue to keep a logbook into the next year so it covers the required 12 continuous weeks."

Logbook method | Australian Taxation Office

Only required to have a valid logbook for the period you are claiming car expenses, before preparing tax return. Logbook method explained below.
