I recently applied for a tax file number(about a month and a half ago), and I still haven’t gotten it I know the wait time is about a month but it’s still been way longer than that, so my mum told me to contact. I was unable to find the correct number to call as the self/independent call lines needed you to have a tax file number. So I was wondering if there was any way to find out where is it or whats going on?

You should try
ATO MAIN SWITCHBOARD 13 28 69, OR 02 6216 followed by 4 ones.
I can't type the digits here because it gets automagically obfuscated by a moderator robot. D'oh.
Last time I called this number it was answered by a helpful human rather than a robot.
You're welcome.
Hi @Nnennad,
TFNs are usually issued within about 28 days, but it can take longer in some cases (for example, if more identity checks are needed).
If you don’t yet have your TFN, you can still follow this up with us – you don’t need a TFN to do that. You can check the status by calling us and letting us know you’re calling about a TFN application status. Select the option for TFN applications. When prompted, let us know you don’t have a TFN yet.
Before calling, have ready:
- your full name (as used on the application)
- date of birth
- current address
- the date and method you applied (online or paper).
If your TFN has already been issued, we can tell you when and how it was sent. If not, we can check whether any further action is needed.
