If I have inherited shares transferred to my name, can I sell immediately and receive CGT discount or do I have to wait 12 months. Most were acquired in the 1990's.

If the deceased bought the shares in the 1990s, the 12-month holding rule is already satisfied.
So you can often sell immediately and still access the 50% CGT discount
From ATO
"You can count an asset’s previous ownership towards your 12-month ownership period if you acquired it:
- through a deceased estate if the asset was acquired by the deceased on or after 20 September 1985"
