Hello community hub,

I'd like to create an account but I'm overseas and I'm a foreigner. I was in the country working as a contractor with a working holiday visa, and I'd like to lodge my tax return. I know I've missed the date that I should have done this by, and I'd like to go in and get ahead of my mistake, but I can't seem to create an account with ATO because my myGov login isn't strong enough and there don't seem to be any options for me to make it stronger.

On top of that, I know I have a TFN but I don't know it and can't find it anywhere. I lost my phone while in Australia and can't get into the e-mail account that I asked it on, but surely it's linked to my passport number?

I can't seem to get ahold of ATO in any way other than calling, and overseas rates are pretty horrendous, so I'd love to be able to e-mail/chat/whatsapp call with someone to help me figure this out?

Sorry for being a bit of a nuisance, I'd like to correct my mistakes. What should I do?

Do you need to lodge a tax return?

"You don't need to lodge a tax return or a non-lodgment advice if both of the following apply:

  • All of your income was earned as salary or wages while you were a WHM.
  • The total of your taxable income for the income year was less than
    • $37,001 for 2019–20 and earlier income years
    • $45,001 for 2020–21 and later income years."
