Hi @MermaidAU,
The employment details you see in ATO Online services come from info your employers report through their Single Touch Payroll (STP).
You can’t add or remove employers yourself in ATO Online services. Only an employer can change this by updating what they submit through their payroll system.
Before looking at next steps, it’s worth noting that an employer may appear under a different business name or ABN than the name you recognise. For example, they may be reporting under a trust or related entity.
It may help to:
- copy the ABN shown in ATO Online services, and
- search it on ABN Lookup.
This can show any linked business names, which may help you identify the employer (some business names are registered through ASIC).
If an employer is listed and you never worked for them, you can contact that business directly and ask them to remove your details from their payroll records. If your current employer isn’t showing, even though you’ve worked there for more than 2 years, speak with them to check they’re reporting your details correctly to the ATO. This includes your tax file number and personal details.
Your current job should appear under the ‘Current’ tab in your employment info. If it’s not there, you don’t need to lodge a new form unless your situation has changed.
If none of the above has helped you, reach out to our individual enquiry line and ask for ways they can update that employer to employee link on your tax account. If they can't resolve this over the phone, you can ask for the matter to be escalated further.
