Because we’re unable to confirm the type of POA currently in place or how it was witnessed in New Zealand, either you or your father will need to provide details of the POA. This will involve supplying copies of the relevant POA documents that meet New Zealand’s signature and witnessing requirements.

I think best next step is to contact us directly using one of the following options:

• Phoning our Individual enquiries line. If the matter can’t be resolved during the call, you can ask for it to be escalated off for further investigation.
• Writing to us and include copies of the current POA documents (with approved New Zealand witnesses). You should also include any relevant additional info or an explanation outlining why you’re requesting access to your father’s TFN.

Some other ways your father can locate his TFN:

• letters your father has received from us
• superannuation account statements
• old 'group certificate' or 'annual income statements' from an Australian employer, or
• reaching out to accountant used in Australia.
