Hi,

I've submitted a request by paper to amend a prior year's tax return. I understand that the ATO does not issue an acknowledgement of receiving the request if it's sent by paper. However, once the amendment has been processed, will I receive any notification from the ATO to confirm that the amendment has been made as requested? Is it correct that I'm not able to see any amendment on my ATO online because my request to amend was done by paper? So, if I need a copy of the amended tax return, is the ATO able to issue one if I ask?

Thank you.

Hi @Jag8,

Once we process your paper amendment, we'll send you a Notice of Amended Assessment (NOAA) to confirm the amendment has been made. You may also receive a Notice of Assessment (NOA). These notices will show the outcome of your amendment request.

Paper amendments can take up to 50 business days to process. You're correct that we don't issue an acknowledgment when we receive a paper amendment request. Once the paper return is entered into the electronic system you will be able to see it online.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for your reply.

I sent by paper the request to amend a prior year's tax return (within the 2-year limit) 8 months ago but I haven't received any notices as you described to confirm the amendment. Neither can I see the amended tax return online. I called the ATO last week to ask about the outcome. The person on the phone was able to tell me the amendment was made. However, contrary to the information provided in your reply, I was told they don't issue any written confirmation about the amendment outcome, neither do they update the ATO Online Service for me to be able to see. Could you please advise how an individual can view the amended tax return after requesting to amend by paper?

Thank you for your help.
