I have been living overseas since June 2024. I have not lodged my tax return for FY2023/24, because I am in Russia and the country is under financial and political sanctions from the Western countries. That means the following: I cannot call ATO, I can neither send money to Australia, nor receive it from there, Facebook and other Western social media are prohibited, and other difficulties. I tried to find ways to contact ATO several times over the last 2 years, but could not.
My registered address on record with ATO in Australia is my parents’ place. This week my parents received a letter from ATO where the tax officials say that they might start legal actions against me if I do not lodge a tax return or contact them.
